Rail Innovation Australia Pty Ltd is the spin-off company created
from the Cooperative Research Centre for Railway Engineering and
Technologies (Rail CRC) which officially closed in June 2007. The
company was established to take the technologies and Intellectual
Property developed by the Research Centre to the market for the
benefit of the rail industry going forward.
The company is the exclusive licensee of Rail CRC technologies and
educational materials jointly developed and owned by CRC
participants:
Aurizon,
RailCorp,
Pacific
National,
ARTC,
TTG
Transportation,
CQUniversity,
UQ,
QUT,
UNISA,
UoW and
Monash
University . Since being established, RIA has been maintaining links and
working closely with many of the Rail CRC participants while
growing the network of other organisations involved in the
technology and education projects.
Intellectual property management and commercialisation is the main
area of RIA expertise. The company has a unique position in the
Australian markets continuing development of new technologies and
educational solutions for the railway industry via customer-driven
cooperative business ventures.
The intellectual property portfolio to RIA by Rail CRC participants
has a variety of item including research outputs, software
products, technology solutions and educational materials. While
commercialisation of Rail CRC outputs is the main short-term
objective of the company,
Rail Innovation Network
is the first R&D product built on the intellectual property
owned by RIA.
Positioning itself as an industry leader in intellectual property
transfer, commercialisation and the development of new technologies
RIA works with and provides services to overseas manufacturers and
SME companies interested in developing new and adapting existing
products making them most suitable to the operating environment of
the Australian railway industry.
Maintaining and managing educational materials cooperatively
developed by experienced industry experts in Rail CRC, RIA is well
positioned to help the industry with ongoing and growing needs in
education and training. More than 500 rail professionals working in
Australia and 30 other countries have undertook a study via distant
education programs in Rail Operation Management, Rail
Infrastructure, Signalling & Telecommunication and Rolling
Stock. Those programs and professional development courses are
delivered by CQUniversity, QUT and the University of Wollongong and
managed by RIA with the help and advice from Industry Advisory
Committees formed from representatives from the
ARA,
RTSA,
IRSE,
RTAA and 18 largest railway organisations.
